Chiswick house in an English Heritage site in Chiswick West London, exploring its history and collection in new and diverse ways through The Black Chiswick through History project. This an ongoing community research project which I have been involved with since it started in 2022.
Working in partnership with local community groups to explore and question the collections and help redefine how the understanding of shared local histories. The project, make these interconnected and diverse histories visible to all those who work at and visit Chiswick House & Gardens through art, asking us all to consider how people of colour have been, and continue to be, represented throughout our shared history in places of national heritage.
Year 1 2022
In collaboration with historian Nadege Forde-Vidal, young people from Hogarth Youth and Community Centre, I explored the collection through a diversity of voices and perspectives.

My work with the young people focused on six objects within the house and gardens. We were guided by Nadege’s research which drew out stories of people, places and experiences related to Black history, linking global connections across time and cultures. Together we collaborated to create a thoughtful and creative visual response to the collection through a series of intricate and layered collage.

These individual artworks referenced the young peoples personal connections to Chiswick, while making visible people of colour present within the house, within the local and national history. I digitally combined these individual artworks to create one cohesive piece, now on permanent display in the house.
