Black Chiswick through History Project 2024 has been a great success with lots of great feed back. the histories shared resonate and have allowed for greater connection with Chiswick /house leaving visitors wanting to learn more.
On October 16th I had the privilege of extending this exploration some of the houses visitors, The west London Ghanian Association, a mixed group of Ghanian elders. the association provides support, advice, assistance, information sharing, social gatherings and sign posting to suitable services for the Ghanaian community.
Facilitating this workshop meant a lot to me being of Ghanian heritage myself and the elders had so much to share and teach me. We had a fantastic day diving deeper into these these histories and had some creative fun to end the day.
Focusing on the words we created artistic blackout poems from the Poetic Unity poems created. We created collages inspired by Ghanian heritage and Jean Baptist Gilbert using silhouettes of ourselves. some great discussions lots of learning and creative fun.
here what the group had to say:
“Thank you all very much for giving us such a fantastic day yesterday, we had a wonderful time. Thank you for giving us your time, for the warm welcome, the brilliant talk, which was so vivid and brought the topic alive for us and for the creative artwork which was fun and so enthralling.
Black Chiswick through history is very powerful and we learnt a lot. We most certainly would like to come again and we look forward to more conversations and creativity.
Thank you all once again”
Such a joy to create with such a enthusiastic group I look forward to next time.
